Thermal Hog Hunting
Join expert guides for one of Texas' best thrills. THERMAL HOG HUNTING!
We have the hogs, the gear, and the fun, we just need you!
How we facilitate the fun!
Texas Style THERMAL hog hunting trips are typically structured as “spot and stalk” type hunts that start just before sundown. Our experienced guides will take hunters of any skill level through our safety course so they can feel totally ready for their night time hog experience. Over the course of four hours, we take hunting vehicles to multiple wild hog hunting areas, including both low fence and hunting preserve properties. Hunters will get the chance to scan the area with thermal and night vision devices in order to spot hogs and coyotes, as well as other non target species. Once hogs are spotted, your Texas hunting adventure is about to get WILD! We try to stalk up less than 75 yards from our target. We often see large trophy boars, as well as sounders of large numbers of wild hogs. Your guide will safely line up the shooters, and then it is up to you to knock down UNLIMITED hogs. That’s right, our thermal hunt has NO HOG LIMIT.
Your guide will provide all the equipment needed for your hunt. We are set up to host and fully outfit large groups of up to 20 hunters! We use custom AR-STYLE RIFLES chambered in 6.8spc, 7.62x39, and .308. THERMALS, SHOOTING STICKS, SUPPRESSORS, and AMMUNITION are all included in your hunt price.
We take pride in having well maintained, high quality gear. Each hunter will be outfitted with $5,000+ worth of equipment. Our rifles are decked out with Pulsar, Infiray, and AGM thermal optics that are perfect for taking down hogs! We will be fully outfitted with high definition thermal handhelds for scanning, as well. You’ll want to bring good hiking boots, weather appropriate clothing, and a small flashlight. Don’t forget a cooler if you want to take home some wild hog meat!
Shot opportunities are presented in more than 98% of our thermal trips. If we don’t get you a shot, we will reschedule you for FREE.
About the hogs
We target wild hogs year-round, because they are considered an invasive species to Texas. Our hunts provide good fun while helping out landowners in the process. Hogs are abundant here, but we do have to work hard to find them. Long stalks and rides in the hunting vehicles are common throughout the night. Hogs can be kept for meat, or we can dispose of them for free. Bring a cooler with ice, and for only $40, our guides will skin and quarter your hog. Meat processing and taxidermy is available as well.

FAQ
We have an assortment of different hog hunting ARs. We have some .223 and some .308, but our primary calibers are 6.8spc and 7.62×39. We chose these, as they are light to carry but have more knock down power than .223 for those big boars.
Our guns are mostly custom rifles that are pieced together. Some of our accessories are made by Timber Creek. Scopes are Pulsar, Infiray, and AGM.
Guns are zero’d by our guides at 75 yards. With it being a digital screen, there is no issue with switching between shooters like a daytime scope.
A wild hog’s gestation period is 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days. They can come into heat every 20-30 days, however, this doesn’t mean that they breed multiple times per year. They spend a portion of time raising piglets, and from our cameras, we have noticed a distinct breeding season. Our hogs breed around November and drop pigs in February or March. In East Texas, they travel in average sized groups of 5-10 and up to 20-30. We call this a “sounder” of hogs.
We have a lot of hogs, but they are tricky to find. It isn’t like T.V. We have to work hard baiting and scouting to find them and get them in the open. Texas has the largest hog population in the US with an estimated 3 million pigs. We put out over 150 pounds of bait per hunt just to get them where we want them.
Wild hog meat is totally safe to eat. Boars over 150 pounds are not ideal. Small and medium sized pigs are just fine to eat. We enjoy pork tacos, breakfast sausage, and pepper and cheese hog wraps.
We can skin and quarter on site. If you are wanting meat processed and shipped, ask Jason for pricing. We offer breakfast sausage and basic cuts.
Yes! Just kidding, they will run if they smell us. However, if we were to corner one or wound it, they can be very dangerous. Sows are also known to protect their piglets. Our guides are skilled and trained to deal with wild hogs. Book your East Texas hog hunt with confidence in our guides for success and safety.
We hunt more than 15 different properties ranging from just a few acres to over two thousand acres. Some of this is lease land, and some of it is land where the owners just want hogs removed.
Team Swamp Stomp started in 2011 as just a bunch of kids hunting for fun. In 2017, we created the business and have been growing and evolving ever since.
